What 100 Williamsburg and Greenpoint restaurants get wrong online
In November 2026 we checked 100 independent restaurants and bars in Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We looked at what a customer, or an AI tool like ChatGPT, actually finds: the menu, the prices, the hours, whether you can book, and who has written about them.
don't have their menu on their own site as readable text
don't show full prices
of those that list hours disagree with Google
with press coverage don't mention it on their own site
Red Hills Lab, Williamsburg + Greenpoint restaurant research, November 2026. 100 independent restaurants and bars with 50+ Google reviews, random sample.
What we found
Williamsburg and Greenpoint look a lot like Notting Hill, where we ran the same check in September. The same gaps come up again and again: menus posted as pictures or PDFs, no prices, and opening hours that say one thing on the website and another on Google.
| What we checked | Result |
|---|---|
| Menu readable as text on their own site | 39% |
| Full prices shown | 42% |
| Hours on the site agree with Google (of those that show hours) | 64% |
| Opening hours shown on the site at all | 59% |
| Book online from the site | 41% |
| On Resy or OpenTable | 31% |
| Business details set up for search tools | 45% |
| Have a working website of their own | 82% |
| Written about by at least one New York food publisher | 68% |
| Average score | 3.2 out of 5 |
Most of these restaurants have been written up by The Infatuation, Time Out, Greenpointers or others. But 60 of the 68 with coverage don't mention it anywhere on their own site. AI tools look for exactly that kind of proof.
A third are already on Resy or OpenTable, which ChatGPT can book through in the US. The booking is ready. What's missing is a menu, prices and hours an AI tool can read and trust.
What AI search said
On 1 November we asked Google's AI Mode five questions people actually ask, like 'best restaurants in Greenpoint' and 'best date night restaurant in Williamsburg'. It made 35 recommendations. 5 of our 100 restaurants were named. The places it chose were mostly the ones with the most press coverage. In one answer, AI Mode gave a Williamsburg restaurant another restaurant's address.

The fixes
Put your menu on your site as text, not a photo or a PDF.
Show your prices.
Make your hours match everywhere: your site, Google and Resy or OpenTable.
Link your booking from every page, or say clearly that you're walk-in only.
Add an "as featured in" line linking to anyone who's written about you.

How we did it
Method
We built the list from Google in November 2026: 473 independent sit-down restaurants and bars in Williamsburg and Greenpoint (ZIPs 11211, 11249, 11222) with 50+ Google reviews. We left out chains, franchises and groups with three or more locations.
We shuffled the list once and took the first 100. Any restaurant that didn't fit was replaced by the next one on the list.
For each restaurant we compared the Google listing with its own website: menu, prices, hours, business details for search tools and booking. Sites that blocked automated checks were checked by hand in a normal browser.
We searched for each restaurant across 18 New York publishers, including Eater, The Infatuation, The New York Times, Time Out, Grub Street, the Michelin Guide, Brooklyn Magazine and Greenpointers.
We scored each restaurant on four things (can it be read, does it agree with itself, do others vouch for it, can you book it), out of 10 points, shown as 1 to 5.
Limits: one press search per restaurant, so coverage may be slightly undercounted. This checks online information, not every AI answer.
Questions people ask
What is AI search?
Tools like ChatGPT, Google's AI Mode and Perplexity that answer questions like 'best brunch in Williamsburg' with a short list of places. They build those answers from what they can read about you online.
Why does a PDF menu matter?
PDFs and photos are slow on a phone and hard for search tools to read. A menu written as text on your site can be read, quoted and matched to what people ask.
Do I need Resy or OpenTable?
No. But if you use one, link it from every page and keep your hours the same there, on Google and on your site.
Can you guarantee we'll be recommended?
No. Nobody can. We make sure everything AI tools read about you is clear, correct and the same everywhere.
